Midnite in Concert

Hailing from the Island of St. Croix, Midnite is one of the most promising roots reggae bands of the millennium. He is a vanguard of conscious reggae who represent the King's and Queen's music to the fullness of Jah.

After the death of Bob Marley in 1981, Jamaica's roots reggae took a back seat to reggae Dancehall; a faster tempo and rhythm version of reggae. Dancehall contained crude violent lyrics, sexual exploitation, and lacking Rastafari culture, opposite from the positive Rastafarian message of peace and love. The late reggae star Garnett Silk brought back the positive lyrics in reggae music.

Midnight, one of the first superstars of his native Island, once again brought the one drop down by slowing the pace to its original roots of reggae music. The music follows in tradition with the legendary roots reggae bands of 1970s Jamaica. The lyrical portions of Midnite's compositions are characterized as the "chant and call" style which gives their music a spiritually intense and overtly Rastafarian feel. He weaves the cultural lyrics of "old school" roots music with modern day experiences to create a unique listening encounter. He centrally focuses on the plights of the oppressed, the inherent faults of the current political, economic and social settings on a global scale.

Additionally, Midnite is no stranger to the Juneteenth celebration, also known as Freedom Day. They headlined this event two years ago. It is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the U.S. It commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes on education and achievement. It is a time for reflection and rejoicing.
